What do board members do

The Board is responsible for the strategic direction and for ensuring the accountability of the organization, as well as risk management and quality and performance monitoring. CRI is both a charity and a company limited by guarantee, and Board members have specific legal and financial responsibilities as both trustees and directors.

What skills do I need?

We are looking for a diverse range of skills and experience from people whose profile reflects the age, gender and ethnicity of our service users. We are interested in people with a background in business management, and experience of strategic planning and managing growth. We are also looking for people with an understanding of our core service areas including substance misuse, crime and homelessness.

You should be independent and impartial and only represent the interests of CRI. The charity has a strong ethical base and we are seeking people with integrity, objectivity and sound judgement.

How much time is required?

The Board meets bi-monthly for half a day at locations chosen to suit members, usually in London or Brighton. Board members may also be asked to attend functions on behalf of CRI. The role is voluntary but Board members receive travelling expenses.

How are board members chosen?

CRI operates an open, competency-based, recruitment programme. If you are interested in joining us, please contact David Royce, Chief Executive, for an informal chat. You will then be asked to send in your CV and meet with the Chair of the Board and the Chief Executive. You will also be invited to attend a Board meeting to meet other Board members and find out more.

Do you provide any training?

We run an induction programme for new members, including visits to project sites and the opportunity to meet project staff and service users.

Are there other ways I can get involved?

If you do not wish to join the Board but would like to work with us in other ways, you can consider either becoming a member of the charity or working with us as a volunteer on one of our projects. Please contact us for more information about these other roles.
